Description:

Here are a good group of 24 small snapshot photographs (each approx. 9.5 x 11.7 cms.), including, Roman Catholic Cathedral with tower, Naval Yard, under construction, Wanchai Bay, 3 of Botanical Gardens, sampan, Chinese men, Chinese ladies seated, 2 f Happy Valley, 2 of Japanese ladies, Hong Kong Bank, Statue Square, Des Voeux Road, Coolies, Bonham Strand, shuttlecock, Queen Victoria statue illuminated, coolies, Queen's Road, Peel Street, Bay with sampans. The photograph of the young Chinese ladies seated in the Public Gardens is illustrated in Jonn Warner's books, Fragrant Harbour, Early Photographs of Hong Kong and also Hong Kong 100 Years Ago. Each of the photographs is numbered on the reverse.

 

Mee Cheung was a commercial photographer who was active 1890s - 1920s in Hong Kong. He advertised himself as a "High Class Photographer". He was known to have taken small snapshot format pictures. These were often views commissioned for documentary purposes.
