The preface of this interesting rarely seen text begins with the statement "Nothing reliable in the nature of a text book or school notes has been produced on the New Territories of Hong Kong." It goes on to state that it is important that the school children of the area have more than a passing acquaintance with their immediate surroundings and further "that it is hoped that these notes will appeal to a wider circle than students at school. The average resident of Hongkong - European or Chinese - is not, to say the least, well acquainted with the New Territories, its natural attractions, villages and people....". This slim text makes a very good attempt to reactify this including brief information on the physical character of the region; villages; transportation; water supply; occupations; history; administration; walks that can be taken; place names and their classification; suggestions for school work that could be done on the region.
