A charming engraving ofof the Great Wall of China that was published in London at the end of the eighteenth century This picture was drawn by William Alexander after a sketch by H.W. Parish.

 

Lord Macartney led a British embassy to China 1793-1795. A large entourage accompanied him including doctors, engineers and artists. William Alexander was one of the artists with the embassy. His hard work and prolific output captured pictures of people and places in China in the late eighteenth century.
